About the Carpentry Programme
Transnet is offering a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme for recently qualified apprentices who hold a red seal in Carpentry.
This programme is designed to bridge the gap between your qualification and real-world work experience. Over 24 months, you’ll get hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to industry-specific tasks that will strengthen your employability and prepare you for a long-term career.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a WIL Trainee, your day-to-day outputs will include:
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintaining tools and equipment in good condition.
- Documenting work performed and reporting to supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this Carpentry programme, you must meet the following requirements:
- Carpentry Trade Test Certificate (red seal).
- Trade tested within the past 4 years.
- Youth between 18 and 35 years old.
- Less than 1 year’s experience.
- Must be a South African citizen.
Competencies
The programme recognises different levels of skill development:
- Beginner: Basic understanding of tools and safety procedures.
- Intermediate: Ability to perform tasks independently with minimal supervision.
- Advanced: Expert-level skills, capable of supervising and training others.
