About The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme:
The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is designed to support students pursuing teaching degrees in South Africa. Recipients of the bursary are required to teach at public schools for a period equivalent to the duration of the bursary received. This initiative plays a crucial role in addressing the need for skilled educators in the country.

Funza Lushaka Bursary 2024:
Applications for the Funza Lushaka teaching bursary are conducted online annually. Recipients of the bursary are assigned to public schools based on priority areas, and they are obligated to serve in the assigned schools.

The bursary covers various expenses, including tuition fees, accommodation, books, and a monthly living allowance, aiming to alleviate financial burdens for aspiring teachers.

Important Guidelines for Online Application:

  • Applicants with criminal records or misconduct charges are not eligible.
  • Employees and their immediate families of Higher Education Institutions are not accepted.
  • Online application is mandatory, and hard copies are not accepted.
  • Candidates with existing teaching qualifications do not qualify.
  • Two types of qualifications are eligible: undergraduate studies (4-year Bachelor of Education degree) and graduate studies (One-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education).

Priority Areas:

  • Foundation Phase (Grades R-3): Preference for African Languages
  • Intermediate and Senior Phase (Grades 4-9): Teaching major in two of the following subjects
  • FET Phase (Grades 10-12): Teaching major in two of the listed subjects

Bursary Requirements And Eligibility:

  • South African citizenship
  • Good academic performance
  • Acceptance at an accredited public university for teaching studies
  • Dedication and passion for teaching, with a commitment to facing challenges and maintaining personal integrity

How To Apply And Application Details:

  • Apply online through the e-Gov portal at www.eservices.gov.za
  • Complete the application form and submit it to the university where you are accepted and registered.
  • Submit certified copies of your ID and academic records along with the application.
  • New applicants are encouraged to explore other funding opportunities such as NSFAS.
  • Changes to application details can be made before the closing date.
